Riverside Horticulture is a family business based in Rangiora, North Canterbury. It was one of the first nurseries in New Zealand, being established in 1855. The original company, Ivory Nurseries was set up by Mr William Ivory who arrived in Canterbury on the immigrant ship the Cashmere in 1855. The business has remained with family ownership and today, Andrew Dartnall, a descendant of Mr Ivory and a seventh generation horticulturist operates the nursery.
The 5acre Nursery facility comprises of a range of propagation houses where we propagate a wide range of plants, other large greenhouses through which the small plants continue there journey towards being ready for planting, and a large outdoor nursery zone where the plants are sufficiently hardened off prior to sale and planting. Riverside Horticulture also has over 2.5km of tree wire facility where we grow on a range of large trees for our markets.
